Facts, Myth and Stories about the Black Path
The Black Path is the oldest known track into the City of London, pre dating the Romans. Also known as Drovers Way due to the route being used to bring produce to the city. It ran from Epping Forest (possibly further out) through Columbia Road Flower Market, London Fields and Broadway Market. From there it’s just a short distance to Spitalfield and Smithfield Markets.
There are many tales of battles, highway robbery, mists across the marshes leading unwary strangers into danger and other uncanny occurrences along the path - some will be used to inspire our dances and also the stories from Tony as he introduces us.
